How to use the 2UP Early Payout Calculator
Use the calculator above to work out your original lay stake and liability, compare possible 2UP outcomes, and calculate an exchange back bet if you decide to trade out after early payout.
- Enter your bookmaker Stake and Odds. For a cash bet, choose Qualifying bet; only choose a free-bet mode if it matches your stake and the promotion permits it.
- Enter the exchange lay Odds for the same team and market, plus your actual Commission (%). Check the calculated lay stake and liability. For an existing bet, keep the original matched prices and use Custom Stake if your matched lay stake differs.
- Compare both ordinary results and Double win. These are possible outcomes from your inputs, not confirmation that a payout has happened.
- Once the bookmaker has paid the qualifying bet early, turn on the switch beside 2UP has happened. Enter Current back odds on exchange and adjust Trade out to compare closing stakes and outcomes.
The Results table still shows the original bet outcomes; use the trade-out figures above it to assess the closing bet.
What counts as 2UP and a full turnaround?
Two goals ahead means a two-goal lead: 2–0 or 3–1, for example. Scoring twice to reach 2–1 is not enough. In this calculator, a full turnaround (FTA) means the backed team goes two goals ahead, then draws or loses within the market’s settlement period.
If the bookmaker pays early and the team later fails to win, an unclosed exchange lay can also win. That is the Double win result. If the team wins instead, the original lay loses; early payout alone does not make both bets winners.
Check the exact promotion, market and settlement rules before betting. For example, bet365’s early-payout terms specify eligible pre-match markets and competitions, with 90 minutes plus stoppage time rather than extra time or penalties. Other offers can differ. Confirm payout in your bookmaker account; the score alone is not evidence that funds have arrived.
Full and partial trade-outs after early payout
Trading out here means backing the same team on the same exchange market to offset the original lay. Use the current exchange back price for this closing bet.
- 0%: leave the lay open. The difference between a win and a draw or loss remains.
- 50%: calculate half of the full closing stake. Some exposure to the final result remains; this does not mean banking half the possible double-win profit.
- 100%: calculate a stake that makes the two modelled outcomes approximately equal, allowing for penny rounding. The resulting amount can still be negative.
The slider does not place a bet. The preview assumes the closing stake is fully matched at the entered odds. An unmatched order does not close the lay, and a partial fill or different price produces different outcomes. If you save a trade-out to Profit Tracker, make sure its recorded odds and stake match what actually filled on the exchange.
The calculator applies commission to positive net exchange profit after combining the original lay and closing back, in line with Betfair’s market-level commission rule. Use your own rate. Other bets in that market or additional charges can change your account’s final total.
Worked example: a £20 qualifying bet
Using decimal odds, back £20 at 3.00, lay at 3.10 and enter 2% exchange commission, with no other adjustments. The calculated lay stake is £19.48 and liability is £40.91.
Without a double win or trade-out, either ordinary outcome is a £0.91 loss. If the bookmaker pays early and the team then draws or loses, the unclosed position returns £59.09 net profit: £40 bookmaker profit plus £19.09 exchange profit after commission.
Now suppose early payout has been received and the exchange back price is 1.80:
| Trade out | Closing back stake | Team wins | Team draws or loses |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0% | £0.00 | −£0.91 | +£59.09 |
| 50% | £16.77 | +£12.51 | +£42.66 |
| 100% | £33.55 | +£25.93 | +£25.93 |
These figures assume the displayed stakes are fully matched at the stated prices and all bets settle as modelled. They illustrate these inputs, not an expected result for every 2UP bet.
Qualifying loss, implied odds and rough expected value
Qualifying loss is the larger loss across the two ordinary outcomes, or zero if neither is a loss. Check both totals when using a custom lay stake.
Implied odds compare the potential double-win profit with that qualifying loss. In the example, (£59.09 + £0.91) ÷ £0.91 gives decimal odds of about 65.93. Across bets with these same inputs, equal ordinary losses and no trade-outs, that corresponds to a break-even FTA rate of about 1.52%. It does not estimate how likely this team is to have an FTA.
Rough expected value uses an assumed FTA chance of 1% below decimal back odds of 3.00 and 2% at 3.00 or above. This is a price-based assumption, not a team probability model. It gives +£0.29 for this example before any trade-out, not a promised return. It does not determine stake sizes or settlement, and it should not be treated as evidence that a bet is profitable.
