Extra Place Calculator

Calculate win and place lay stakes when the bookmaker pays more places than the exchange. Compare the qualifying loss in ordinary finishing outcomes with the profit if your selection lands in an extra place. Enter your own odds, commission and place terms; the calculator shows possible results, not which selection will finish there.

How to use the Extra Place Calculator

  1. Choose the correct Bet type and enter EW stake (per part), Win odds and EW terms.
  2. Set the bookmaker Places and Lay Place market’s Places separately. For example, four bookmaker places and three exchange places create a fourth-place extra outcome.
  3. Enter the Lay odds and Commission (%) for Lay Win and Lay Place.
  4. Compare both lay stakes and liabilities, each Results row and Implied odds. Negative ordinary outcomes are qualifying losses. Check the extra-place result separately.

Modes and outcomes

The extra-place outcome applies only when the selection finishes inside the bookmaker places but outside the exchange places. That place back bet wins while the place lay also wins. A win or standard place settles differently.

Qualifying uses cash stakes. SR and SNR describe whether an eligible promotional stake is returned with winnings. An extra-place offer and a free-bet offer are separate terms to check; selecting a mode does not establish eligibility.

Implied odds uses the least-negative ordinary-outcome loss when comparing the cost with the extra-place profit. Read every Results row because rounding can produce a slightly worse figure elsewhere. N/A can appear when there is no qualifying loss; this metric is not a probability forecast.

Worked example

Cash bet with an extra place

Enter £10 per part, win odds 5.00, quarter odds, four bookmaker places and three exchange places. Set win lay odds to 5.00, place lay odds to 2.00, and commission to zero; assume no settlement deductions.

The win and place lays are £10 each, with liabilities £40 and £10. A win, standard place or no place produces £0. Finishing fourth produces £20 because it wins the bookmaker place bet but not the exchange place market.

These are illustrative inputs, not current market prices or typical returns. The result assumes matched bets and the stated settlement terms.

Adjustments and changing odds

Custom stakes can trade a larger ordinary-outcome loss for a different extra-place return. Compare every result after changing them. Recheck places after non-runners, and check dead-heat and deduction rules before relying on the displayed figures.

Frequently asked questions

Does the extra-place profit happen on every bet?

No. It applies only to the finishing positions paid by the bookmaker but not the exchange.

Which place count belongs in each field?

Use the bookmaker promotion terms for the back bet and the actual exchange place market for the lay.

Can there still be a qualifying loss?

Yes. Different odds and commission commonly produce a loss in ordinary outcomes. Compare that cost with the conditional extra-place result.

Is £10 each way a £10 bet?

It is £10 on each part, so a cash bet costs £20 before exchange liability.

What if both markets pay the same places?

There is no extra-place position between them. Use the Each Way Calculator for the ordinary win-and-place hedge.
